Yes, you can install hybrid flooring over existing tiles, as long as the tiles and subfloor are suitable.
Hybrid is a floating floor, so in theory it can sit on top of most hard surfaces. The important part isn’t that it’s tiles, it’s that the surface underneath is flat, clean, dry, and stable. The tiles should be level with no obvious lips or raised edges. If there are high spots, lippage, or dips between tiles, they should be ground down or filled before installation. All tiles also need to be firmly stuck down. If you tap and hear hollow spots, or any tiles are loose or crumbling, that needs to be fixed first. Hybrid flooring over a moving or unstable surface will cause problems later.
The tiled floor must be cleaned properly so there’s no dust, grease, glue, or silicone left on the surface. The subfloor should be dry, with no moisture issues coming through the slab.
Grout joints are the last thing to think about. If the grout lines are shallow and fairly narrow, hybrid will usually go straight over the top and feel fine underfoot. If the grout joints are wide or deep, you might feel a slight pattern underfoot where the joints are. It’s not usually a structural problem, but if you want a perfectly smooth, “new slab” feel, it’s better to do a skim coat or flood coat over the tiles first to level everything out before laying the hybrid.
In short, hybrid over tiles is completely fine, but only if the tiles are flat, solid, clean, and dry. Spending a bit of time on prep will make a big difference to how professional the finished floor looks and feels.
