Flat, clean, dry and stable — the four words that decide how professional your finished floor feels. Our boards tolerate around 2mm of variation per square metre, which is more forgiving than much of the market, but high spots and dips beyond that should be ground down or filled with levelling compound before a single board clicks together. It is unglamorous work and it is also the single biggest factor in the result: a floor laid over a wavy slab will telegraph every wave. Concrete slabs should also be properly dry — new pours need their curing time.
