How Much Does Vinyl Flooring Cost in Australia? (2026 Price Guide)

Vinyl Flooring [2026 Price Guide]
13 min read

What does vinyl flooring actually cost in 2026? I get asked this every week, usually by someone who has just been handed a quote with one big mystery number on it. The honest answer: less than most people expect, and less again if you skip the showroom.

This is the vinyl flooring cost guide I wish every caller had read before they rang. I sell these boards every day from our Brisbane warehouse, so the prices below are not estimates pulled from thin air. They are our shelf prices at the time of writing — from about $25 to about $47 per square metre.

We will walk the whole thing in plain English: cost per square metre by tier, supply-only versus supply-and-install, the do-it-yourself maths for glue-down planks, and what a real 60 m² quote looks like line by line.

Warm Oak Vinyl Plank [Mid-Range]This look sits near the middle of the ladder — about $39 per square metre in boards at the time of writing.

The Short Answer [TL;DR]

At the time of writing, quality vinyl plank flooring costs $24.98 to $46.96 per square metre, boards only, across our range. A typical 60 m² space runs about $1,650 to $3,100 in boards, including 10% wastage. Installation is extra and varies by job. And because our vinyl is glue-down, a patient DIYer can remove that labour line entirely.

Real Numbers [Per Square Metre]

Vinyl Flooring Cost Per Square Metre in Australia (2026)

Let me put the actual ladder in front of you first, because everything else in this guide hangs off it. These are the real per-metre prices across our vinyl flooring range at the time of writing. Supply-only. Boards, nothing else. Tap a column heading to sort.

Range Thickness Price per m² Warranty (up to) Best for
Timberland LVP 2.5mm $24.98 20 yrs res. Rentals, flips, tight budgets
Sterling 3mm $27.24 20 yrs res. Budget buyers who want colour choice — 13 colours
Timberland LVP 4.5mm $39.13 Lifetime res. / 15 yrs comm. The all-rounder — our hero board
Allure 4.5mm $40.30 20 yrs res. Extra-long 1423mm planks, fewer joins
Herringbone LVP 4.5mm $43.84 Lifetime res. / 15 yrs comm. The parquet look, P3 slip rating
Vision 5mm $46.96 20 yrs res. Premium feel, 14 colours

Two notes on that table. Prices can move, so treat them as accurate at the time of writing. And warranty figures are "up to" numbers — check each product page for the fine print before you buy.

So what does more money actually buy you? Mostly thickness and feel. A thicker plank is stiffer, sits more solidly underfoot, and is more forgiving of tiny imperfections in the slab. What it does not change is the surface. Our Timberland boards carry a 0.5mm commercial-grade wear layer — the clear coat that takes all the scuffs — on both the $24.98 board and the $39.13 board. And every plank on that list is 100% water resistant, whichever price you land on. If you want the full walk-through of which spec deserves your money, my vinyl plank flooring buyer's guide covers it board by board.

The Fork [Two Ways to Buy]

Supply-Only vs Supply-and-Install: What the Price Actually Includes

Here is where most cost confusion starts. A "vinyl flooring supply and install price" bundles two very different things: the boards, and a trade's time. A supply-only price is just the boards. Neither is wrong. But you need to know which one you are looking at before you compare anything.

Supply-only suits you if you plan to lay it yourself, or if you already have an installer you trust. You buy the boards warehouse-direct at the prices above, and the rest is between you and your trade. Supply-and-install suits you if you want one company to own the whole job — but you pay for that convenience, and the board price inside the bundle is usually invisible.

My standing advice, whichever way you lean: never accept one blended number. Ask for supply and labour as separate lines. It is the only way to see whether the boards are fairly priced, and the only way to compare two quotes honestly.

Quick Answer [Pick Your Path]

How are you planning to get it laid?

Then supply-only is your number. You buy the boards at the per-metre prices above, add adhesive and a couple of tools, and your labour costs nothing. On a 60 m² space that keeps the total close to the board cost alone.

Jump to the DIY maths

Then get the quote split in two. Ask your installer to price labour separately, buy the boards warehouse-direct at the prices above, and pay them just to lay. You keep the labour expertise and drop the retail markup on the boards.

Get an instant quote on the boards

Then anchor on the board price first. Everything else in a quote scales off it. Our range runs $24.98 to $46.96 per square metre at the time of writing, and each step up the ladder buys thickness and feel, not a better wear surface.

Straight Talk [Labour]

How Much Does It Cost to Install Vinyl Flooring?

I will be upfront: I sell boards, not installs, and I refuse to invent a national per-metre labour rate just to fill a paragraph. Labour genuinely moves — between cities, between trades, and between a flat empty slab and a chopped-up older house with six doorways. Anyone quoting you one universal figure is guessing.

What I can tell you is what drives the number. Subfloor prep is the big one: a glue-down floor needs a clean, flat, sound surface, and grinding or levelling a rough slab takes real time. Then comes the adhesive itself, the layout and cutting around door frames and cabinetry, and the rolling that beds every plank in properly. A small, square, empty room is quick. A furnished house full of corners is not — and the quote will reflect that.

So treat installation pricing the way a builder would. Get two or three quotes. Insist each one splits boards, prep, adhesive and labour into separate lines. Then compare the parts, not the totals. And once you can see the supply line clearly, bring it to us — we will beat any like-for-like price by $1 per square metre under our price beat guarantee. If you are also weighing up a click-together floor, I broke down the trade maths for that side in my guide to the cost of hybrid flooring installation in Australia — the same quote-splitting logic applies.

The DIY Kit [Everything The Job Needs]Boards, adhesive, a trowel, a roller and a weekend. That is the entire labour line, gone.

The Big Saving [DIY]

The DIY Glue-Down Maths: Remove the Labour Line Entirely

Here is the part of the cost story that surprises people. All our vinyl is glue-down, and glue-down planks are honest DIY territory for a careful first-timer. Not effortless — you spread adhesive with a notched trowel, lay your planks to a line, and roll them in — but there are no fiddly click profiles to snap and no underlay to buy. The planks bond straight to a properly prepared subfloor.

The maths is simple and satisfying. Your cost becomes the boards, a tub of adhesive, a trowel, a roller you can often hire, and a weekend. The entire labour line — usually the second-biggest number on any supply-and-install quote — goes to zero. On a whole-house job, that is real money staying in your pocket.

The honest caveats: if your slab is badly out of flat, price the prep before you commit. And herringbone is a different beast — the pattern punishes sloppy setting-out, so I would leave that one to a pro unless you are confident. For everything else, I wrote a full first-timer's walkthrough so you can lay it yourself and save — subfloor prep, adhesive, cutting, rolling, the lot.

Worked Example [60 m²]

What a Real 60 m² Quote Looks Like

Sixty square metres is a fair stand-in for a unit or the living zones of a typical house, so let me price it three ways. Each figure below is boards only, includes the 10% wastage you should order, and uses our shelf prices at the time of writing — so 66 m² of boards in total.

Budget build

Sterling 3mm — about $1,800

66 m² at $27.24/m². The cheapest way to floor the space with a proper colour choice behind it. The 2.5mm Timberland brings it down further, to about $1,650.

The all-rounder

Timberland 4.5mm — about $2,583

66 m² at $39.13/m². Our hero board: thicker, more solid underfoot, with a warranty of up to lifetime residential — check the product page.

Premium finish

Vision 5mm — about $3,100

66 m² at $46.96/m². The thickest board in the range, in 14 colours, for the most furniture-like feel underfoot.

On top of the boards sit the smaller lines: adhesive, any trims and door bars, and delivery to your area — or free click and collect if you are in Brisbane. Add labour if you are paying for the lay. None of those change which board you can afford, but a complete quote shows all of them. If you want this worked up for your exact rooms and range, our instant quote tool does it in a couple of minutes, no phone tag required.

The Honest Edge [No Showroom]

Why Online-Only Prices Run $8 to $15 Per Metre Cheaper

Every flooring showroom you walk into is paid for by the boards it sells. Rent on a big-window retail space, the fit-out, the display stands, the staff on the floor — all of it has to come out of the per-metre price. Across the industry, that overhead typically adds $8 to $15 per square metre to the very same product.

We made the opposite call: no showroom, one Brisbane warehouse, and the savings passed straight into the shelf prices you saw above. On a 60 m² job, $8 to $15 per metre is roughly $480 to $900 that stays in your renovation budget instead of someone's commercial lease. I wrote up the whole reasoning in why we refuse to open a showroom if you want the long version.

The fair question back is: how do you judge a floor you cannot walk on in a store? Samples. We send three free samples with $15 flat shipping, and they arrive in two to four days. A real board in your own light beats a showroom's downlights every time — and it costs less than a coffee run.

Spend Less [Without Regret]

Cheap Vinyl Flooring: How to Pay Less Without Buying Twice

Cheap is not a dirty word in vinyl — it is my favourite part of the category. Our budget vinyl flooring collection starts at $24.98 per square metre, and that board is no decoy. It is Korean-made, low-emission vinyl carrying the same 0.5mm commercial-grade wear layer as boards costing far more. You give up thickness, not the surface your feet and furniture actually touch.

That is the test I want you to apply to any cheap floor, from anyone: what did they thin down to hit the price? If the answer is the plank body, fine — that is an honest budget board. If the answer is the wear layer, walk away, because that is the one part of a vinyl floor that cannot be cheap without the whole floor failing early.

Watch Out [Unbranded Boards]

The cheapest board on the internet is cheap for a reason

Unbranded planks tend to skimp where you cannot see: a wear layer so thin it can scuff through fast, and no low-emission pedigree behind the vinyl itself. Cheap should mean less plank — never less floor. Ask for the wear layer figure in writing before you buy anything.

And if the budget is tight across the whole renovation, not just the floor, I put every affordable option side by side — vinyl included — in flooring on a budget: the best affordable options for 2026. It is the wider version of this section.

Budget Done Right [Same Wear Layer]Our cheapest plank carries the same 0.5mm commercial wear layer as the hero range. You give up thickness, not the surface you walk on.

Fine Print [The Extras]

The Extra Costs People Forget to Budget

Almost every "the quote blew out" story I hear comes down to lines that were never in the first number. So here is the complete list of what sits around the boards: adhesive, subfloor levelling if your slab needs it, trims and door bars where the floor meets other surfaces, delivery, and wastage. On paid installs, add labour and furniture moving. Write them all down before you fall in love with a per-metre price and the final bill will never surprise you.

Rule of Thumb [Wastage]

Order 10% more than your measured floor area for straight-lay planks, and 15% for herringbone. The offcuts at walls and door frames have to come from somewhere, and boards bought later from a different batch may not match perfectly. Buy the spare boards up front.

Do

Order samples before boards

Three free samples, $15 flat shipping, at your door in two to four days. A wrong colour across 60 m² is the most expensive mistake on this page.

Do

Measure properly, then add wastage once

Length by width for each room, add them up, then let the calculator above add the 10%. Five minutes with a tape measure beats a guess every time.

Avoid

One blended quote number

A single mystery total can hide an inflated board price. Insist on supply and labour as separate lines, always.

Avoid

Under-ordering to save money

Running one box short mid-job means waiting on delivery and risking a batch mismatch. The spare boards are the cheapest insurance in flooring.

The Extras [Budget For These]Adhesive, trims and door bars are the lines people forget. None of them are scary, but a quote that hides them is not cheap, it is incomplete.

FAQ [Quick Answers]

Vinyl Flooring Cost: Common Questions

How much does vinyl flooring cost in Australia?

At the time of writing, quality vinyl plank flooring costs between $24.98 and $46.96 per square metre supply-only from our range. Budget 2.5mm planks sit around $25, mid-tier 4.5mm boards run about $39 to $44, and premium 5mm boards are about $47. Installation is extra and varies by job, and because glue-down planks suit a patient DIYer, that labour line can be removed entirely.

How much does it cost to install vinyl flooring?

There is no single national rate, and I would be guessing if I quoted one. Labour depends on your city, the installer, the state of your subfloor and how chopped up the rooms are. Get two or three quotes with supply, prep, adhesive and labour split into separate lines. Then you can compare each part fairly and check the board price against warehouse-direct pricing.

How much is vinyl flooring for a 60 square metre space?

Boards only, with 10% wastage included: about $1,650 in our 2.5mm budget plank, about $1,800 in Sterling 3mm, about $2,583 in Timberland 4.5mm and about $3,100 in Vision 5mm, at the time of writing. Adhesive, trims, delivery and any labour sit on top of those figures.

Is cheap vinyl flooring worth buying?

It can be, if the wear layer is right. Our $24.98 budget plank carries the same 0.5mm commercial-grade wear layer as our hero board, so the surface wears the same — the plank underneath is simply thinner. What I avoid is unbranded boards with a paper-thin wear layer and no low-emission pedigree. That is where cheap turns expensive.

What extra costs should I budget for beyond the planks?

Adhesive, any subfloor prep, trims and door bars, delivery, and wastage — 10% on straight-lay planks, 15% for herringbone. If you are paying an installer, labour and furniture moving are the other big lines. None of these are scary, but a quote that hides them is not a cheap quote, it is an incomplete one.

Why is buying vinyl flooring online cheaper?

Because you are not paying for a showroom. A board sold through a showroom has to help cover rent, fit-out and floor staff, which typically adds $8 to $15 per square metre to the same product. We run a Brisbane warehouse instead, deliver Australia-wide, offer free Brisbane click and collect, and send out three free samples so you can judge the board at home first.

Get Real Prices in Your Hands

A price guide can only take you so far — at some point you need the actual board on your actual floor and the actual number for your actual rooms. Both are easy. Order three free samples ($15 flat shipping, two to four days to your door) and judge the colour in your own light. Then run your measurements through the instant quote for a line-by-line figure at warehouse-direct prices.

And if you would rather just ask a human, call me on 0431 311 633. I will tell you honestly which board suits your budget — including when the $24.98 plank is genuinely all you need. No hard sell. Just the real numbers, the same ones you have been reading here.
