The cheapest flooring here is $22.00 per square metre

That is our 2.5mm luxury vinyl plank: $85.80 a box, and each box covers 3.90m². Divide one by the other and you get $22.00 per square metre. The dearest floor here is the 4.5mm herringbone vinyl at $39.95. Four tiers, 38 colours, everything else in between.

Cheap flooring is cheap for two separate reasons, and it is worth knowing which one you are buying. The first is the board: a thinner wear layer and a simpler core cost less to make. The second is everything loaded on top of the board price before it reaches you.

We do not run a showroom. No retail lease, no display fitout to amortise, no floor staff on commission. That is a structural saving rather than a sale, which is why these rates hold every day of the year instead of appearing for a long weekend. The reasoning is in why we refuse to open a showroom.

The price ladder: what each tier costs and what it suits

Every range is a flat rate. All twelve laminate colours cost the same, and so do all twelve 6.5mm hybrids. Pick the look you like within a tier and the price does not move.

Board only, before delivery. Per m² is the box price divided by the coverage of one box.
RangePer m²Box / coverageColoursBuild and best use
LVP 2.5mm luxury vinyl plank$22.00$85.80 / 3.90m²6Glue-down and 100% water resistant. The thinnest board we sell, so it needs a flat, sound subfloor.
Urban Laminate 12mm$24.90$47.74 / 1.917m²12DIY click-lock, thick 12mm profile, hard scratch-resistant surface. Timber-based, so dry rooms only.
SPC 6.5mm hybrid (5+1.5mm)$33.99$76.14 / 2.24m²12Click-lock, 1.5mm underlay bonded to a 5mm stone composite core. 100% water resistant, so it goes anywhere.
LVP Herringbone 4.5mm$39.95$66.72 / 1.67m²8Glue-down and 100% water resistant, in a herringbone block. The dearest tier here, still well under our timber.
For context, our 9.5mm hybrid is $49.99 per m², solid bamboo $61.39 and 14.3mm engineered Australian hardwood $113.28. Prices current at time of writing; the product page is the live figure.

Browse the tiers: vinyl flooring, laminate flooring and 6.5mm hybrid flooring. The laminate and hybrid tiers are also floating floorboards, which click together and rest on the subfloor rather than being glued down.

What a real room costs: a 5.0m by 4.0m living room

Twenty square metres of floor is not twenty square metres of flooring. Every run generates offcuts, and you can only buy whole boxes. Add the standard 10% cutting allowance, 20m² becomes 22m², then round up to the next full box.

A 20m² room plus a 10% cutting allowance, so 22m² to buy. Board cost only, before delivery.
RangeBoxesActually coversBoard costPer m² of room
LVP 2.5mm luxury vinyl plank623.40m²$514.80$25.74
Urban Laminate 12mm1223.00m²$572.88$28.64
SPC 6.5mm hybrid1022.40m²$761.40$38.07
LVP Herringbone 4.5mm1423.38m²$934.08$46.70

Note the last column. Rounding and waste push the vinyl from $22.00 to $25.74 per square metre of finished room, and the laminate from $24.90 to $28.64. Every retailer has that gap; most simply do not show it. Herringbone runs higher again, because the diagonal cuts at every wall generate more offcuts than a straight lay.

Run your room through the flooring calculator, or send the measurements through the instant quote form and we will work out boxes and freight. Freight is quoted separately by address; terms are on our delivery information page.

What you give up at this price, and what you do not

What you genuinely give up

  • Refinishing. None of these four ranges can be sanded back and recoated. When the wear surface is gone the floor is replaced, not restored. Our 14.3mm engineered Australian hardwood at $113.28 per m² is the range that can be.
  • Subfloor forgiveness. The 2.5mm vinyl is thin, so every dip and ridge in the slab reads through it. The 12mm laminate and 6.5mm hybrid hide far more, and a poor subfloor can quietly wipe out the saving.
  • Wet areas, on the laminate. Laminate is timber-based. It is the one tier here that is not 100% water resistant, so keep it out of bathrooms and laundries.
  • Attached underlay. Only the 6.5mm hybrid arrives with underlay bonded to the back. Both vinyl ranges glue straight down, so adhesive and preparation are part of the cost.

What you do not give up

  • Choice. Thirty-eight colours across the four tiers, twelve in each of the two largest ranges.
  • Seeing it first. Free samples on every range at our samples page; you only cover the postage.
  • The same warehouse. These ship from the same Brisbane warehouse, on the same freight network, as our dearest timber.
  • A published price. Every figure here is on the product page too. No quote-to-reveal step, and no pricing that shifts depending on who is asking.

Which affordable flooring option suits which room

  • Bedrooms, lounges and hallways: Urban Laminate 12mm at $24.90 per m². Dry rooms are what a thick laminate is for. Background in our Australian laminate buyer's guide.
  • Kitchens, laundries and whole-house jobs: SPC 6.5mm hybrid at $33.99 per m². 100% water resistant with underlay attached, so one floor runs through every room without a transition strip at the kitchen door.
  • Rentals, unit refits and large areas on a budget: LVP 2.5mm at $22.00 per m². The lowest rate we stock, 100% water resistant, glued down so it sits flat and quiet.
  • Entries and feature rooms: LVP Herringbone 4.5mm at $39.95 per m². A herringbone lay changes how a room reads more than any colour choice will, and still costs less per m² than our plain 9.5mm hybrid.

Still deciding? Our guide to flooring on a budget compares the options, and what vinyl flooring costs in Australia goes deeper on vinyl.

Why there is no showroom, and what that saves

A flooring showroom is a large tenancy in an expensive retail precinct, fitted out with display panels, staffed through trading hours and paid for out of the margin on every box that leaves the building. The customer carries that cost whether or not they ever walk in.

We took the other path from the start. Stock sits in a Brisbane warehouse, prices are published rather than negotiated, and the money that would have gone into a display floor stays out of the box price. What replaces the showroom is a free sample of any board, so you judge the colour in your own light. To talk it through, call 0431 311 633.

Affordable flooring questions

What is the cheapest flooring you sell?

Our 2.5mm luxury vinyl plank at $22.00 per square metre, which is $85.80 for a box covering 3.90m². Six colours, 100% water resistant, glued down rather than floated. It is cheapest because it is the thinnest board we stock, which also means it needs a flat, sound subfloor.

Is cheap flooring actually worth buying?

It depends on the room and on what is under it. A 12mm laminate in a bedroom gives years of service at $24.90 per square metre. The same board in a laundry is a mistake at any price, because laminate is timber-based and not water resistant. Matching the tier to the room is what separates a good budget floor from a false economy.

How much does it cost to floor 100m²?

Add the 10% cutting allowance and you are buying 110m². In the 2.5mm vinyl that is 29 boxes at $85.80, so $2,488.20, or $24.88 per square metre of finished floor. The same area in the 6.5mm hybrid is 50 boxes at $76.14, so $3,807.00. Board only.

Why is the price I pay higher than the per square metre rate?

Two reasons, and they apply to every flooring retailer in Australia. You need more flooring than you have floor, because every run generates offcuts, and 10% is the usual allowance. Flooring is also sold in whole boxes, so a room needing 9.8 boxes costs you ten. Above, that turns $22.00 into $25.74 per square metre of room.

Is your budget flooring 100% water resistant?

Three of the four tiers are. Both luxury vinyl plank ranges and the 6.5mm SPC hybrid are 100% water resistant, so spills and mopping are not a problem. The Urban Laminate is the exception: it has a timber-based core, so it belongs in dry rooms such as bedrooms, living areas and hallways.

Can I install it myself?

The laminate and the 6.5mm hybrid are click-lock floating floorboards and are the two most DIY-friendly floors here. The boards lock into each other and rest on the subfloor, with an expansion gap around the edges hidden by scotia or skirting. Both vinyl ranges are glue-down, which is more demanding: the subfloor must be flat, clean and dry, and mistakes are not easily undone.

Can I see the flooring before I buy it?

Yes, through samples rather than a showroom. Order any range as a free sample and we will post it out, with only the shipping to cover. A board on your own floor, in your own light, tells you far more than a display panel does. There is no showroom to visit, and that is deliberate: it is a large part of why the entry price is $22.00 per square metre.
